(DE) Nachdem im April 2020 aufgrund der aktuellen Corona-Krise die Arbeitslosenzahlen in den USA explodierten und viele Bürger*innen ohne Einkommen und Absicherung ins Nichts fielen, veranlasste Präsident Donald J. Trump das Erstellen von ca. 159 Millionen "Stimulus Checks" von bis zu 1200 US-Dollar pro Person. Diese sollten vor allem denen mit geringem Einkommen, Obdachlosen und Rentner*innen zu Gute kommen und zugleich die amerikanische Wirtschaft ankurbeln.

Das Problem ist allerdings, dass alle Steuerzahler*innen aus dem Jahr 2018/2019 einen solchen Scheck erhalten, ungeachtet dessen, ob sie sich nur temporär in den USA aufhielten und Steuern zahlten oder zu diesem Zeitpunkt sogar verstorben waren. Zugleich warteten andere bedürftige Bürger*innen noch Monate danach auf jenen Scheck, der ihnen zusteht und für die Monate April/Mai ihre einzige Geldquelle darstellt.

Als International Student im Jahr 2018/19, Social Security Card holder und offizieller US-Tax Payer war auch ich unter den Empfänger*innen eines solchen Schecks, einem Stück Papier, das zwar theoretisch 1200 Dollar wert ist, aber von meiner Seite nicht legal eingelöst werden kann.

Er wird somit nur als reines Sammlerobjekt zu seinem Originalwert von 1200 $, bzw 1064,80€ an eine nicht in den USA lebende Person verkauft. Die Bezahlung, ohne den Scheck illegal einzulösen, wird nun direkt an eine bedürftige Person in den USA erfolgen, die ihre Arbeit aufgrund der Krise verlor und nun von Monat zu Monat um ihre Existenz kämpft.

(EN) In April 2020, when the unemployment rate increased massively and innumerable citizens were left without their income, President Donald J. Trump initiated the dispense of approximately 159 million Stimulus Checks of up to 1,200 US$ per person. Those checks were meant to help indviduals with low-income, homeless and retirees while as well boosting the economy.

However, such checks were distributed to all tax-payers of the years 2018/2019, regardless if the recipient had been merely a temporary resident or if they had died within the years. At the same time, countless eligable US-citizens had to wait for the money to arrive for months, even though it was their only financial source for April and May 2020.

As an International student in 2018/19, Social Security Card-holder and official US-tax payer I received one of the checks, a piece of paper that is technically worth 1,200$, yet still can not be legally cashed.

Therefore, the check will only be sold as a collector’s item at it’s original value of 1,200$ or 1064,80€.

The potential buyer, a person not living in the US, will have to transfer the money directly to a person in the US who has lost all their jobs due to the pandemic and now has to fight for their existence each month.
